Premature Celebration Costs High School Baseball Team Championship

In a rather odd way, a high school baseball team from New York lost its title game in a crushing defeat.

The baseball team from Hornell High School was up one run against Palmyra-Macedon High School in the Section V Class B1 championship game.

Hornell's pitcher managed to strike out the opposition hitter for the game's final out when Palmyra-Macedon was down to its final strike.

The catcher, however, failed to make the catch on the pitch. On a dropped third strike, the Hornell team ordinarily would throw to first base, but instead they started their championship celebration.

While everyone was celebrating, the baserunners for Palmyra-Macedon realized that the play was still active, so they continued to round the bases to score the winning run.

The majority of the Hornell team persisted in celebrating the entire time, despite attempts by certain players to alert their teammates to the situation.

Unmistakably, the Hornell coaches changed from jubilant celebration to directly confronting the umpire,

Appearing to demand explanations for the strange turn of events, at which point understanding sank in.
