"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" Debuts with $120.5 Million

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" opened domestically with $120.5 million.

The film had the second-biggest opening weekend of the year, after "The Super Mario Bros.

Movie" with $146 million, and the third-biggest "Spider-Man" opening weekend.

Sony's animated sequel is benefiting from favorable reviews, word-of-mouth, and goodwill from 2018's Oscar-winning "Spider-Man:

Into the Spider-Verse." The first picture, which featured Miles Morales and "anyone can wear the mask,"

opened to $35.5 million. It grossed $190 million in North America and $384 million worldwide, proving its staying power.

China led the international launch of "Across the Spider-Verse" with $17.3 million. Starting at $208.6 million worldwide.

Franchise Entertainment Research's David A. Gross calls this an excellent start for an animated sequel.
