Texas city tornado kills 3 and injures dozens.

On Thursday, a tornado hit the city of Perryton in the Texas Panhandle, killing at least three people and injuring more than fifty.

According to Trent Hoffeditz, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Amarillo,

the tornado struck Perryton, a town of roughly 8,500 people, at 5:10 p.m.

Three deaths have been reported, according to Paul Dutcher, chief of the Perryton Fire Department.

He said a trailer park was one of the areas hit hardest.

Ochiltree County Sheriff Terry Bouchard told NBC affiliate KAMR of Amarillo that the tornado caused "a lot of damage," particularly to mobile homes and businesses.

He told the radio station that the tornado "basically came across the city of Perryton from the northwest to the southeast."

Over fifty people were admitted to Perryton's Ochiltree General Hospital, the hospital reported.
